Work Diary - Fourth Shoot

Evaluation

During this shoot, I wanted to focus on extremely personal items which could be the evidence of somebody's identity and/or existence. I chose to photograph my desktop, bedroom, as well as toothbrushes, photographs, trophies, bed side tables, wardrobes etc. This topic links with human presence, but on a much more personal level, as in my photographs from this shoot, we can see pieces of jewellery, and general personal possessions which are linked to the person that owns them. I liked this topic a lot as it was easy to shoot, but I also like the explicit meaning that is shown throughout all these images.

This is one of the images that i took of my desktop, clearly we can see certain personal possessions that belong to me such as my watch, pencil case, notepad, camera lens, balloon from a restaurant etc. This is evidence of my existence and presence, as i have obviously put these objects there. This photo is also evidence of my disorganisation, as the desktop is extremely messy. 

This photo is of a wall from the upstairs of my house, on this wall and from what we can see in this photo, is a lot of photographs of my brothers and i from when we were younger. This is evidence of growth and age, as these were taken a long time ago in the past. I had to angle my camera so that none of the photos were visible as they were professionally taken.

Progression

Following on with the 'personal possessions' topic, I would like to next shoot in the studio, and use a table to align all my personal possessions that i carry on a daily basis. I would also like to take at least nine photos, including my own, of other people's personal possessions too. This will enable me to create a multiple imagery. I would also like to ask people to organise their possessions in order of value. As well as shoot their possessions the way that they place them. For instance, I had a look on the internet to find influence and inspiration for my next shoot, and these are some of the images that i found:

Evaluation

During this shoot, my aim was to take more personal photos of houses, cars, door numbers etc. As to continue with the idea of evidence of human presence, but look at it more personally. This lead me to take photos of broken glasses on the ground, houses, cars parked in front of their houses, graffiti etc. I liked this shoot because it allowed me to take photos of anything and everything, as this subject is extremely broad. However, I now would like to take more strict shoots, with particular structured ideas in mind.

This is one of the first images that i took during this shoot. It clearly identifies human presence as it is showing a door, with a door number - obviously showing that it was a house, where somebody lived. I like this image because the subject fits the frame, and both sides match. I also like that the number is directly in the centre of the photo, so it is in direct eye contact, and therefore is the first thing that we see. 

This is a photo that i took of a broken glass bottle that was in the middle of a cycle path. Evidently, someone has smashed the bottle and left it there, leaving the remains of the bottles label and smashed glass shavings. I like this image because it demonstrates litter, but also signifies that human presence can be careless, as they leave a trail of something they probably shouldn't (for instance, an empty bottle of alcohol). 

Progression

For my next shoot, I would like to explore personal possessions. I touched on this idea a little in my previous shoot, but i now would like to make it my main focus. I plan to take photos in the Studio of different possessions from different people (i.e. keys, phone, purse etc) aligned on a table, where some photos demonstrate that persons personality through the organisation of the possessions. For instance, I could ask the person to place the objects in order of value, or simply just ask them to place them on the table. I could also do this in a Location setting, whereby i take photos of people's desks, bathrooms, bedrooms etc, showing the different objects that they display. Another idea could be that i take photos of a diary, and show the person's emotions through words, or even notes and lists of what they plan to do that day. I had a look on the internet to find inspiration for this topic, and these are a few that i liked:

Definition of "Evidence" - the available body or facts or information indicating whether a belief or proposition is true or valid.

I have chosen the four images below because they each show different areas of evidence. For instance, the first picture is showing a finger print with black powder, on a white surface. I like this image a lot because it defines evidence very well and clearly. I also like that there is a brush in the image too, because it shows that the evidence can easily be brushed away and never seen again. Finger prints are individual to each person and therefore, are unique and I would like to explore with that idea in mind throughout this project. The second photo I have chosen is of a footprint, cemented into the ground. I like this image because it shows evidence that there is human civilisation, but also, as it is cement, it shows that that footprint will always be there, it is never going to vanish unless more cement is put over it. I like the idea of taking photos of footprints in different locations, weather and materials. This photo is also significant because a footprint can be used as evidence in a crime, but can also be anywhere in a street and mean absolutely nothing. The third image is an outline of a body on the ground, with numbered cards placed around it. This is obviously part of a crime case as we can see the shoes of 'detectives/police'. I'd like to explore with the outline of a body, but in random and insignificant places, which would explore the comical side of evidence. Finally, the last picture is of a girl looking into the mirror, but her reflection doesn't match her body and mind in reality. This is because this image is portraying the evidence of mental illness. Likewise with movement, mental health cannot be seen normally, but can be portrayed through images and photos. I would like to explore the evidence of mental health at some point in this topic because i think it would be extremely interesting and creative.

My own definition of the word "Evidence" - a sign, symbol, object or piece of dialogue which provides information about something that has already happened. 

Work Diary - Second Shoot

Evaluation

This second shoot was much more enjoyable and interesting. I decided to move on from the evidence of human civilization through litter, and instead looked at buildings, cars, symbols and signs etc. This allowed me to take far more appealing photos, and I think they represent the topic a lot more. I shot a couple of photos of litter and cigarettes on the floor and such, as that is the first idea that this is linked too, and I tried to see if I could make them photos look anymore likeable, but it didn't really work so I think i'm going to move on from that idea for good. This second shoot was a lot more fun because I was able to explore other aspects of civilization, and this allowed me to look around, and explore photo ideas that I wouldn't normally notice or think of. This also caused me to look at objects and buildings that I would usually just ignore, and I enjoyed that. 

This is one of the shots that i took. Originally, the idea of this photo was to get a picture of the "LOOK LEFT" lettering on the floor, but as I was taking the photo quickly because there were a lot of people around, i caught the people in front of me within the image, and didn't actually capture some of the letters. However, I really like this image because we can see movement, as the people's legs are blurred - showing that they were walking. 

I really like this image i took because the background is blurred, and so we can focus on the center of the image which is the sign. This links to my first topic as the sign is informing people about the penalty fine for littering. I also like this image because the sign is bright yellow and bold, and as it is in the center we look at it straight away. I enjoy taking photos of signs because they are put there for people to look at and read, which represents my topic of human civilization. 

Progression

I really enjoyed this shoot. However, I would like to explore the more personal root of human civilization, by taking photographs of door numbers, houses, cars, bicycles, etc. I think this is a more interesting topic because the photos will be relatable. It will also allow me to explore into other photo ideas such as people themselves, personal possessions etc. When searching for influence on the internet for evidence, I ventured into the more personal root for my next shoot, these are some of the images that i found:
